This program provides funding for interventions aimed at installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of buildings instrumental to agricultural activities. In addition, complementary interventions can be implemented to improve energy efficiency, such as asbestos removal from roofs, thermal insulation, and installation of automated ventilation and cooling systems.
The goal of the program, in line with European Union directives, is to achieve the installation of at least 375,000 kW of new solar photovoltaic systems in the agricultural sector by 2026. AGRIVOLTAICO: INSTALLAZIONE IMPIANTI FOTOVOLTAICI A TERRA PRESERVANDO L'UTILIZZO DI SUOLO
The “Agrivoltaic Decree” is a significant step forward in the integration of solar energy in agriculture while ensuring the continuity of agricultural activities. This initiative aims to preserve the balance between energy production and agriculture by allowing photovoltaic panels to coexist synergist with agricultural crops.
Specifically, the system reserves about 70 percent of the total area for agriculture, maintaining the goal of supporting agricultural production. The remainder of the land will host photovoltaic panels, positioned to enhance agricultural activities and improve yields. This synergy between solar energy and agriculture represents a great opportunity for sustainable agriculture and the abatement of greenhouse gas emissions.
The EU’s goal is to install a production capacity of 1.04 GW from agri-voltaic plants, which will produce about 1,300 GWh per year, contributing to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.
